The beloved mother of two, son, Delmer Ferris, who was killed in Vietnam in 1965, and daughter, Ardith (Ferris) Zinnel. Services were 11 a.m. Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa. She was the loving wife of the late Howard W. Ferris for more than 53 years. The beloved mother of two, son, Delmer Ferris, who was killed in Vietnam in 1965, and daughter, Ardith (Ferris) Zinnel. Services were 11 a.m. Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa. Burial was in St. Claire Cemetery, Ute, Iowa. Louise was born Nov. 1, 1916, to Henry and Mary (Waderich) Dethlefs in Smithland, Iowa. She moved with her family as a child to a farm near Castana, Iowa. On Feb. 18, 1939, she married Howard W. Ferris in Ute, Iowa. The couple farmed south of Mapleton, Iowa, for 42 years. She was a cook at the Mapleton School in the early 1960s. The couple also operated the Ferris Cafe in Denison, Iowa, in 1963. They retired to Onawa in 1980. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa and a former member of St. Matthew's Church in Mapleton. More recently, she attended Faith Lutheran Church in Carmichael, Calif. She was a kind, wise and caring person who loved her family, friends and growing flowers. She enjoyed baking and listening to music. She is survived by her daughter, Ardith (Ferris) Zinnel of the Sacramento, Calif., area; two grandsons, Steve K. Zinnel and great-grandchildren, Zac and Zayna Zinnel, David Zinnel and his wife, Jennifer, and great-grandchildren, Joshua and Katelynn Zinnel, all of the Sacramento area; and two sisters, Clara Walde of Denison, Iowa, and Ella Fester of Ute, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard, on May 1992; her son, Delmer, in 1965; her parents; two brothers, Walter and Henry Dethlefs; and two sisters, Mrs. Esther Nemitz and Mrs. Marie Etchison. She will be greatly missed but long remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
