Her father was a Newspaper Manager in Hviskum, DK at the time. Herman came from aristocracy. She was born Jan. 27, 1859 in Sønder Vinge sogn (Parish) Middelson, Viborg amt.(county), Denmark and christened March 13, 1859 in Sønder Vinge sogn church. Her father was a Newspaper Manager in Hviskum, DK at the time. Herman came from aristocracy. She was born Jan. 27, 1859 in Sønder Vinge sogn (Parish) Middelson, Viborg amt.(county), Denmark and christened March 13, 1859 in Sønder Vinge sogn church. Her paternal grandparents were Christof Ludvig Walther (1778 - 1856) Dorothea Elise Ulricha Bloch Walther (1790 - 1833). Her maternal grandparents were Claus Daniel Ludwig Behrens (1801 - 1868) and Lisette Dorthea Schrøder. She emigrated to America on Dec.22, of 1889 and after she arrived she married Lars Christian Christensen, son of Christen Anderson & Ane Larsdatter, on Dec. 23, 1889 in New York City, NY. They knew each other before she came to America. The following spring they started farming on their own by renting land in Turner County, South Dakota. On October 16, 1890, their first daughter, Anne Elizabeth, was born. They had a son, Christian August Ludvig Christensen (1989-1891) who was too ill to make the long voyage and he stayed behind in Denmark with his grandmother. This must have been a very difficult time for all concerned. Christian died in Denmark. Four years passed before Augusta Margrethe was born on November 17, 1894. About this time they moved to a farm with a larger house in South Dakota. Next Christian August was born October 4, 1896. Before the winter set in they moved to a farm that had good buildings and many fruit trees. While at this place, another son, Carl Walthers, was born Nov. 25, 1898. Free land was still available in North Dakota and Lars and friend went 8 miles south of Kenmare, ND to homestead in Baden Township in 1905. Louise and Lars were instrumental in getting a Lutheran congregation started which was called, "Our Saviors' Lutheran Church." Louisa started the Ladies' Aid Society organized and was President of that group for over twenty years. Lars served on the Church Board, township and school boards for many years. In the year 1927 they rented their farm to their son, Walter, and moved into Kenmare, where they had purchased a home near Anne their oldest daughter, Mrs. Christ Nelsen. They lived contentedly in this home until Lars's death on August 27, 1936, at the age of 77 years. Louise continued to live in this home with the aid of newly married Ernest and granddaughter, Helen (Nelsen) Nelson, who also lived with her to help as she had diabetes until Louise died of uremia (kidney failure) on June 2, 1939 at the age of 80 years. She is buried along side her husband in Lakeview Cemetery, near Kenmare, ND.
