Description	:	Louise (Martin) Welsch and her twin sister, Lois, were born in Pawnee City, Nebraska on August 22, 1929 to George and Ada (Cox) Martin. She passed away, Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at Tabitha in Crete at the age of 88. Louise was baptized in the Lewiston Methodist Church. Read More	Louise (Martin) Welsch and her twin sister, Lois, were born in Pawnee City, Nebraska on August 22, 1929 to George and Ada (Cox) Martin. She passed away, Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at Tabitha in Crete at the age of 88. Louise was baptized in the Lewiston Methodist Church. She attended rural schools until fourth grade, later attending Lewiston Consolidated Schools, graduating with the class of 1947. Louise often mentioned that the school bus had a homemade wooden body. While in high school she enjoyed playing on the volleyball team. After she graduated from high school, she taught in a rural school for two years near Liberty. Louise then attended Lincoln General Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1952, and became a Registered Nurse. She enjoyed working as a nurse until her retirement in 1998. Louise started her career in Beatrice while Gene was in the service. She then worked in Seward and completed her nursing career after 34 years at Crete Municipal Hospital. She was always willing to help family and friends who needed nursing care or other help. Memorable moments of her nursing career include taking care of polio patients (especially children who were in iron lungs in Omaha), the ammonia disaster in Crete, and the home birth of her grandson, Peter. Louise took care of people, both long and short term - Grandma Selders and Aunt Verva Martin for many years, as well as her father who lived with them for a year in 1968. Louise married Eugene Welsch on October 5, 1952 at the Lewiston Methodist Church. After Gene was discharged from the US Army in 1955, they made their home on a farm near Milford, where they raised their children, Samuel, Mark, David and Mary. She enjoyed spending time with extended family, especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Milford United Methodist Church where she served on various committees. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Blue River Chapter #132, Blue Valley Quilters, and a co-founder of Milford Food Net. She loved making and collecting new and old quilts. Louise is survived by her husband, Eugene; children and spouses, Samuel Welsch and Patricia Spitzer, Lincoln, Mark and Bonnie Cosentino-Welsch, Omaha, David and Debra Welsch, Mary and Michael Wiese, all of Milford; grandchildren and spouses, Daniel Welsch, Ember Welsch and Jeremy Patterson, Peter Welsch, Theresa Spitzer Smith and Kenneth Smith, Al Cosentino, Benjamin and Jennifer Welsch, Rebecca and Matthew Steuk, Jillian Wiese, Karl Wiese; 11 great-grandchildren, Naomi, Matthew, Ada, Harrison, Raegan, Lincoln, Truman, Wilson, Trevin, Isaac, Madisyn; twin sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Larry Walrath, Salida, CO; many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Ruth Hicks, brothers-in-law, Robert Hicks and Joseph Selders, nieces and nephew, Nancy Hicks, Roxann, Steven and Kristine Selders. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 11, 2018, at the Milford United Methodist Church with Rev. Lyle Schoen officiating. Private family burial at a later date at West Blue Cemetery, rural Milford.
