When she was four years of age her parents moved to Keosauqua, where she grew to womanhood. May the 10th, 1877 she was united in Holy Matrimony to C. A. Cornell. This union was blessed with six children: Lora, Ethel Louise, Minnie, Hugh Monnet, and Lloyd E. One child died in infancy and daughter Minnie preceded her parents in death at age of 17. Mr. Cornell passed to the great beyond Dec. 26, 1918. Practically all of Mrs. Cornell’s life was lived in this community. In 1921 she moved to Chicago to be near her relatives and children. Several months ago she was stricken with a fatal illness, all that loving hands could do was done for her comfort and recovery. She passed to the land of pure delight at Chicago, Ill., Sept. 2, 1925, aged 73 years, 8 months and 26 days. Early in life she united with the Keosauqua Congregational church and remained an honored and faithful member until the end. She passed from this life firm in the faith that wins an eternal crown. She was also a member of Rebecca Lodge No. 340, Keosauqua. In the passing of Mrs. Cornell Keosauqua loses an old settler, a noble member of the generation that helped make the splendid history of this great state. She will be tenderly remembered by loved ones and friends who knew her as a christian mother, sister, and neighbor. She leaves to mourn her passing two daughters Mrs. Lora Welgeson, Minneapolis, Minn.; Ethel Louise Cornell, Chicago, Ill.; two sons Hugh Monnet Cornell of Chicago and Lloyd E. Cornell of Palisades Park, N.J. One sister, Mrs. C. S. B. Smith of Chicago; two brothers, U.G. Monnet of Chicago and J. C. Monnet of Norman, Okla., besides grandchildren and a number of more distant relatives and a host of friends who knew her and loved her. Funeral services were held at the Keosauqua Congregational church, conducted by the pastor Rev. Paul P. Jackson. Many beautiful floral offerings represented the loving esteem in which the deceased was held. Interment was at Purdom cemetery. Services at the grave were conducted by the local lodge of Rebekahs.
