Logsdon entered Maryland in 1674, and through searching records in Maryland and the Archives in Washington we can trace his family, fairly well but we do not seem to be able to get records of the family in Kentucky. The courthouse at Munfordville burned and that was the center of the area where the Kentucky Logsdons had their homes. There was quite an exodus to Iowa in 1848 of Richmonds and Logsdons. Louvisa (daughter of Wm. J. and Martha) married James Richmond and they were the parents of Rev. Francis Marion Richmond, father of Rilla, whom you probably knew in Carthage. Her nephew is Hugo Weidler. Agnes Priscilla, was the youngest daughter, we believe, of Wm. J. and Martha, and she was the mother of Shafer, you Grandfather. Louisa Logsdon, one of a large number of children, was born March 16th, 1823, in Hunt County, Kentucky. She was married January 9th, 1839, to James Richmond. Five children were born to them in that state. In 1848, in company with her husband and his parents, she came to Jasper County, Iowa, then known as the far west. Land could have been purchased at a dollar and a quarter an acre close to Newton, but they wanted a home in the timber, and settled eventually on land three miles southeast of Baxter, buying in all over 300 acres. Here most of their children were born. Neighbors were scarce, and Indians prowled about. However, soon most of her father's family come and settled near. In 1881 they moved to Newton, where they continued to reside till her death. At the time of her death but two of her father's family were left, both brothers. Mrs. Richmond was the mother of thirteen children, twelve now living. There are thirty-one grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was dearly beloved by her family and justly so, and many are the friends who mourn her death. She was converted at the age of thirteen years, and lived a consistent Christian life, being at her death a member of the Sugar Grove Baptist Church. ---------------- Likely burial site near her husband.
