Description	:	WAUNETA -- Lowell Albert Grimm, 85, died Monday (Feb. 22, 2010) at the Heritage of Wauneta Nursing Home. He was born Jan. 21, 1925, in Wauneta to Louis and Laura Mae (Gaines) Grimm. Read More	WAUNETA -- Lowell Albert Grimm, 85, died Monday (Feb. 22, 2010) at the Heritage of Wauneta Nursing Home. He was born Jan. 21, 1925, in Wauneta to Louis and Laura Mae (Gaines) Grimm. He grew up in Wauneta and graduated high school in 1942. After graduation he attended the University of Nebraska until being drafted into the U.S. Army. He joined the U.S. Army at the age of 19 and was sent overseas to fight during Wolrd War II. He was wounded on Nov. 28, 1944, and was sent to Fort Carson, Colo., to recuperate. On June 6, 1945, he was awarded the Purple Heart. On Aug. 18, 1946, he married Myra Krausnick. He worked in the family business, Grimm's Hardware Store, for 46 years, retiring in 1991. He was a community leader serving on the board of trustees from May 1957 to May 1961, May 1963 to May 1967, and again from July 1970 to June 1974. He served as chairman of the board from May 1958 to May 1959 and May 1966 to May 1967. He was a member of the American Legion for over 60 years, as well as the Jaycees, Elks Club and a member of the Methodist Church of Wauneta for 76 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Betty Jean (Grimm) Maxfield of Wauneta; and son-in-law, Bruce Medcalf of Lincoln. Survivors include his wife, Myra of Wauneta; one son, Carroll and wife, Susie of Greeley, Colo.; one daughter, Jackie Medcalf of Lincoln; sister, Miriam (Grimm) Allen and husband, Chuck of Des Moines, Iowa; grandson, Chad Grimm of Denver, Colo.; three step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one step-great-great-grandchild. Funeral services was Saturday at the United Methodist Church of Wauneta with the Rev. Judy Dye officiating. Interment followed at Riverside Cemetery in Wauneta. A memorial has been established to the United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund and the Wauneta Senior Center.
