Dean was born on June 17, 1933, in Luray, Missouri, the only child of Russell Lewis and Opal (Sayer) Kirchner. Read More	Lowell Dean Kirchner, 84, of Burlington, passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2017, at his home. Dean was born on June 17, 1933, in Luray, Missouri, the only child of Russell Lewis and Opal (Sayer) Kirchner. He grew up in Northeast Missouri and in Kansas City, and attended school at Paseo, eventually attaining his GED. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1950 and served in the Korean War. After his honorable discharge in 1952, he followed in his mother’s footsteps and entered the study of chiropractic medicine. He graduated from Cleveland Chiropractic College in 1956 and entered into practice in Kansas City, Kansas, and Raytown, Missouri. On August 3, 1955, Dean was married to Lovile Dorothy Seehafer at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Drake, North Dakota. Together they raised four children. In 1969, Dr. Dean moved his family to Burlington, Kansas, to join his mother’s practice. He then served in solo practice for ten years and in 1979 was joined in practice by his eldest son, Wayne. They built their new clinic in 1980, and practiced together until Dean’s retirement in 1989. Through the years, Dean pursued multiple business interests, including operation of the Trail House Restaurant, Rocking R Motel, Kiss Photo (photo development studio), and Hollywood Connection (video store), while also managing multiple rental properties both in Burlington and elsewhere. Dean served three terms as Mayor of the City of Burlington. He led the city as the Wolf Creek Power Plant was being constructed. He was a member of Congdon-Kepler Post No. 38 of the American Legion at Burlington, and a member and Past Master of Burlington Lodge No. 66, AF&AM. He had been a member of the Burlington United Methodist Church, where he served as music director for 17 years, directing choir and forming the handbell chorus. He maintained a lifelong interest in barbershop quartet music, and was a member of the Captial City Chorus in Topeka, Kansas. He also attended Harmony College annually for many years, and sang with his children at every opportunity. Dean loved to travel, and his path led him to Korea and Japan (during the war), and later to Tahiti, New Zealand, Australia, and the many countries of Europe. Recent decades saw Dean again turning his attention overseas, where he helped to develop and train a young generation of doctors of chiropractic in Germany. Teaching and helping others: this was the work that he loved most of all. Dean is survived by Lovile, his wife and companion of nearly 62 years; his children, Dr. Russell Wayne Kirchner and wife Anita of Burlington, Kathy Fromme and husband Phillip of Burlington, R. Kraig Kirchner and wife Angie of New Strawn, and B. Neal Kirchner and wife Dr. Janet Kirchner of Lincoln, Nebraska; eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 27, 2017, at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington. The family will meet with friends on Thursday morning at the funeral home, from 10:00 AM until service time. Burial with military honors will follow at Graceland Cemetery.
