Description	:	Lowell Frederick Peters was born in George, Iowa on December 18, 1937, a son of John H. and Esther Van Briesen Peters. After a lengthy illness, he departed this life, at his home, on November 20, 2017. When Lowell was twelve years old, his family moved from George to Cherokee, Iowa where he graduated from high school in 1956. He graduated from the University of South Dakota with a BS degree in business administration. Read More	Lowell Frederick Peters was born in George, Iowa on December 18, 1937, a son of John H. and Esther Van Briesen Peters. After a lengthy illness, he departed this life, at his home, on November 20, 2017. When Lowell was twelve years old, his family moved from George to Cherokee, Iowa where he graduated from high school in 1956. He graduated from the University of South Dakota with a BS degree in business administration. After which, he worked for The MLB Sports Association, where he was the head of public relations for the National League Farm System, until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in December 1960. Lowell was commissioned as 2nd Lt. in 1961. While on active duty he earned a Master's Degree in Business Administration from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA, in 1975. After serving many years in the Medical Service Corps, including a tour in Germany, two tours in Vietnam, a tour in Italy, and numerous stateside tours, he retired in 1983, holding the rank of Major. During his military career, Lowell received many awards, including the Bronze Star. After retirement, Lowell moved back to Spencer, Iowa, where he worked for The Iowa Workforce Development Veterans Program for 18 years. He was also an officer in the American Legion, VFW, and the Masonic Lodge of Spencer, IA. Lowell was a faithful member of the Church of Christ; having worshipped with the West End Congregation in St Charles, MO and the Birdell Congregation, in Pocahontas. Lowell is survived by his wife (Joyce Hufstedler Colston), two step-daughters, four step-grandchildren, two brothers, Gaylord (Joyce) Peters of Spirit Lake, IA, Larry (Mary) Peters of Plano, TX and Cherokee, IA; two nephews, two nieces and numerous other beloved relatives and friends. Memorials may be made to the Paragould Children's Home, 5515 Walcott Rd, Paragould, AR 72450. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 24 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am in the chapel of the Jurrens Funeral Home, in George, IA with a graveside service immediately following in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George, IA. Full military honors will be presented.
