Lowell, was born to Lloyd F. and Marie E. Peters on April 26th, 1937. He was born at his parents home southwest of Perry. He attended school and graduated from Washington Township in 1954. He started farming with his father when he was 16. He enlisted in the National Guard in 1954 and completed 8 years of service and was honorably discharged in 1962. October 6th, 1957, he married his high school sweetheart, Carol Ann Reece at the First United Methodist Church in Perry, IA. To this union, 3 children were born. They lived in rural Perry for 10 years, then moved to rural Yale where they continued to farm. Lowell belonged to the Masonic Lodge and he was a lifetime member of the Elks. The continuation and preservation of the historic Prairie Center Church was dear to his heart and he actively participated to achieve that. He also attended Yale United Methodist Church when Prairie Center was not in session. The two greatest loves of Lowell’s life was family and farming. Every year since 1964, the family tradition was to vacation in Branson, MO, where they met several lifelong friends from St. Louis. He loved to spend his time fishing for rainbow trout, in his boat or off the dock with his friends. He enjoyed a simple life spending time with his grandchildren teaching them a love for the land. His father always told him that a person should leave the land that they live on or farm in better condition than when you received it. Lowell always tried to abide by that philosophy. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Lois A. Modlin.
