A private Memorial Service will be held in Phoenix, AZ, where all of his family resides. Lowell married his beloved wife Anita (Engstrom) in 1951, from Oelwein who preceded him in death in 1992. Read More	Lowell Weston age 95 of Fredericksburg, IA, died Monday, August 9, 2021, at Hillcrest Home in Sumner, IA. A private Memorial Service will be held in Phoenix, AZ, where all of his family resides. Lowell married his beloved wife Anita (Engstrom) in 1951, from Oelwein who preceded him in death in 1992. Lowell was a long-time resident of Iowa born in West Union and finished high school in Oelwein in 1943. He worked for Iowa Electric Light and Power company for 38 years and lived in many Iowa cities before retiring in 1985. Lowell is a hero to his family and his country having served in the Navy during WWII from 1943 - 1946 in the Pacific. He was a signalman on the USS Barrow a troop transport ship From his vantage point in the crows nest, he observed the iconic and inspirational American flag raising on Mt. Suribachi at the land of Iwo Jima on February 19, 1945. This image became a symbol of victory and freedom for the United States for decades to come. We all stand a little taller in this country because of the love of family, country, and men like Lowell Weston who sacrificed so much! Also a very special thank you to Dick and Kathy Schmedeke for the scores of things you have done for Lowell over the years and his sons! Your compassion and benevolence are unsurpassed. YOu are a blessing to our family and we will miss you! Lowell is survived by his three sons, Mike, Dave, and John all of Arizona; 11 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Anita in 1992.
