Description	:	Loyd George Minor was born on March 15, 1928, in Brookings, SD, the son of Silas and Clara (Hillestad) Minor. He died on Saturday, January 20, 2007 at the Brookings Hospital at the age of 78. Loyd grew up in rural Brookings, spent a short time in Oregon and California before moving back to rural Brookings. He graduated from Brookings High School. He was active in the Young Farmers 4-H Club and FFA. Read More	Loyd George Minor was born on March 15, 1928, in Brookings, SD, the son of Silas and Clara (Hillestad) Minor. He died on Saturday, January 20, 2007 at the Brookings Hospital at the age of 78. Loyd grew up in rural Brookings, spent a short time in Oregon and California before moving back to rural Brookings. He graduated from Brookings High School. He was active in the Young Farmers 4-H Club and FFA. Loyd received the American Farmer Award from the National FFA and was also a FFA State Officer and treasurer. He was active in Rural Youth after high school. Loyd served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Loyd continued his education at South Dakota State College and decided that farming was to be his vocation. He was united in marriage to Lavonne Prouty, on September 22, 1957 in Lake Norden, SD. He raised Sokota Seed Corn and Sunflowers for many years. He enjoyed feeding cattle and raising crops. Loyd retired from farming in 1994 and moved to Brookings. He was an active member of Morningside Community Church and enjoyed learning about his Savior through Bible Studies. He was also a member of the American Legion. Loyd was active in the Brookings County Livestock Feeders and a grower-member and a board member of Sokota Seed Company. He was also active in Golden Kiwanis and looked forward to the weekly meetings. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and especially watching his children and grandchildren in their activities. Loyd is survived by his wife Lavonne of Brookings; nine children, Alan (Linda) Minor, Scott (Sherri) Minor, James Minor, Valerie Minor all of Brookings, Mary (Jeff) Olson of Madison, MN, Steven (Tammy) Minor of Brookings, Sherry Moore of St. Louis Park, MN, Gary Minor of Houston, TX, Lance (Lisa) Minor of Brookings; 21 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two sisters Lea (Larry) Klein, Mavis Dail all of La Mirada, CA; one brother Dwaine (Helen) Minor of Brookings; and a sister-in-law Donna Minor of Brookings. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his twin brother Floyd.
