Description	:	Loyd Herman Meier, son of John and Marie (Carstens) Meier, was born November 16, 1921 in rural Pierce County. Loyd died Sunday January 22, 2012 at St. Joseph's Rehabilitation and Care Center in Norfolk. Loyd grew up on the family farm, and attended rural school through the eighth grade. On August 13, 1940, Loyd was married to Ruth B. Adams at the Pierce County Courthouse. Loyd and Ruth were blessed with a son, Larry Meier. Loyd died Sunday January 22, 2012 at St. Joseph's Rehabilitation and Care Center in Norfolk. Loyd grew up on the family farm, and attended rural school through the eighth grade. On August 13, 1940, Loyd was married to Ruth B. Adams at the Pierce County Courthouse. Loyd and Ruth were blessed with a son, Larry Meier. The family farmed in rural Pierce County, lived in Idaho and Oregon, before returning to Pierce County in 1947. In 1949, Loyd and Ruth became co-owners and operators of Wee Town, north of Norfolk. The family then moved to Norfolk in 1951, where Loyd worked several jobs before joining the maintenance staff at the Norfolk Veterans Home. He retired as a maintenance supervisor in 1987. Loyd and Ruth were married for 71 years, before her passing on November 25, 2011. Loyd was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Norfolk, where he served as an Elder and Usher. He enjoyed caring for his lawn and home, and was the neighborhood "handy-man". Loyd is survived by: son, Larry (Kathy) Meier of Niobrara, Nebraska; grandson, Scott Meier of Phoenix, Arizona; great-granddaughters, Makenna Meier and Peyton Meyer, both of Broomfield, Colorado, and many nieces and nephews. Loyd was preceded in death by: parents, John and Marie Meier; wife, Ruth Meier; brothers, Louis Meier and Ervin Meier; and sister, Evaline Olson. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Norfolk, NE.
