Loyd West and Theo Lewis West, was born on January 10, 1927 at Hartington. He graduated from the Osmond High School in 1943. He served as a radioman in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He later earned a bachelor's degree from the University of South Dakota at Vermillion. He was married to Mary Lou Perlenfein on August 6, 1951 at Omaha. The couple had two daughters, Sharon and Luella. He was a third generation businessman and was active in the business until the time of his death, having worked in Bonesteel, SD; Omaha, Ewing, Creighton, Osmond and Crofton. Along with lumberyards, he owned and managed several farms in northeast Nebraska. Loyd was a member of the United Church of Christ in Creighton, a past Rainbow Dad for the Order of Rainbow Girls, a 50+ year member of the Plainview Masonic Lodge No. 204, Mount Vernon Chapter No. 84 Order of the Eastern Star, the Northeast Neb. Shrine Club, the Model T Shrine Patrol, the Yankton Consistory, the Sesostris Shrine, American Legion Post No. 74 in Creighton, the Knox County VFW Services Committee, the Creighton Chamber of Commerce, the Creighton Development Corp and the Ham Radio Club. He passed away on Friday, May 19 in Creighton at the age of 73. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou; daughters, Sharon and husband, Jerry Closter of Creighton and Luella and husband, Kelly Hodson of Osmond; five grandchildren; sisters, Barbara West of San Diego, CA and Ruth Elverson and husband, Vern, of Woodbury, MN; brother-in-law, Duane Fudge, of Plainview and many nieces and nephews.
