Details of the death were not given. It is understood the body was not recovered. A report carried in the Lincoln Star Wednesday morning stated "Lt. Bishop, 26, was killed on a routine assignment flight near Malta, Monday. He was stationed with the 6th Fleet on the carrier, the USS Randolph in the Mediterranean." Lt. Bishop, a jet fighter pilot, was a 1950 graduate of Geneva high school and a 1954 graduated of the University of Nebraska which he attended on an NROTC scholarship. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Bert Bishop, who resided in Geneva many years prior to their death. In addition to his widow and three children, a son and two daughters, Lt. Bishop is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Howard Walters of Lincoln. The children are Bert Jr., 4, Miriam Ann and Virginia Louise. Geneva relatives of Mrs. Bishop planned to fly east to assist her, but she requested they wait until later as it was thought she and the children would return to Nebraska.
