Col. (Ret.) Alfred John Dinkel, 55, 1275 Garfield, who died Monday in a Topeka hospital. He had been ill many years and recently had an abdominal ailment. He was born Jan. 28, 1914 at Walker in Ellis County and lived in Topeka since 1951. He served 20 years in the Army and had been stationed in the U.S., Europe, Japan, and Korea before he retired in 1952. He was a member of Assumption Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council No. 534, Capitol Post No. 1 of the American Legion, and Philip Billard Post No. 1650 of VFW. He was married to Inez E. Logan Sept. 4, 1940 at Junction City. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Michael Dinkel and Paul Dinkel, both at home; a daughter, Mrs. Judith Roth, 1809 Central Park; his mother, Mrs. Anna Mary Dinkel, Walker; four brothers, Alvin C. Dinkel, Victoria, Ralph Dinkel, Oakley, Rev. Emil F. Dinkel, Garden City, and Virgil Dinkel, Baltimore, Md.; four sisters, Sister Mary Apollonia, Elmhurst, Ill., Sister Mary Lioba, Milwaukee, Wis., Mrs. Laura Miller, Catherine, and Mrs. Arnita Scheck, Walker, and three grandchildren. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Colonel Dinkel will lie in state from 2 to p.m. Tuesday at Brennan Funeral Home where rosaries will be recited by the Knights of Columbus at 7:30 p.m. and by the parish at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
