Description	:	Lieutenant Colonel James Steve Gresham, retired Greenville Health System (PRISMA Health) Administrator, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 25, 2019, at the age of 67. Steve tragically died in a one-car wreck in Eastern Tennessee after his car flipped multiple times on a rural road at Cagle Mountain, near McMinnville. Steve was born in Greenville, South Carolina, on October 13, 1951, to James William Gresham and Ruby Etta Ayers Gresham, at Greenville General Hospital. Colonel Gresham was a direct descendant of the well-established Gresham family of the Simpsonville-Five Forks area of Greenville County, one of the first Greenville families. Steve is survived by his parents; two children, Ashley Lynn Gresham Ghent (husband Danny) and James Steven Jennings-Gresham; his wife of only twenty-four days, Sharon "Savannah" Spake Gresham; and his former wife of almost twenty-nine years, Kathleen Jennings. Colonel Gresham was predeceased by his first wife of thirteen years, Sharon Barfield Gresham, and their son, David Bruce Gresham, who both died from complications of cancer. Steve is also survived by a brother, Tim Gresham (Debbie), and their children, Joseph and Mikki. Steve was a 1969 graduate of Greenville Senior High School and a 1973 graduate of Clemson University. He graduated Clemson with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Business Administration and later earned his Master's in Business Administration from the University of the Pacific. After graduating from Clemson, Steve went to work for Milliken & Company for a short time, working with the corporate office in LaGrange, Georgia. Deciding that a desk job career was not for him, Steve left Milliken and joined the United States Air Force, which at that time was expanding. Steve served both active duty and in the Reserves in the Air Force Medical Corps for twenty-five years. He served in many combat zones during his service, from Operation Urgent Fury (U.S. Invasion of Grenada) to Operation Just Cause (U.S. Invasion of Panama), to Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. After his transition into civilian life from the Air Force Reserves, Steve pursued a management opportunity with the Greenville Hospital System (now PRISMA Health) as an Administrator. During his time as Administrator, Steve took on the development of the fledgling Cancer Treatment Center, making it one of the finest in the country. He had additional duties as Administrator of Roger C. Peace Rehabilitative Center, the Patewood Medical Campus, the Greenville Health System Clinics, and various other departments. He retired from the Greenville Hospital System in 2016 after twenty-three years. In memory of his late son, Steve, his wife, Kathleen, and son, James, started the David B. Gresham Leukemia Research Foundation in 2000. The Foundation is now maintained by PRISMA Health and United Way of Greenville. Steve was a man of strong faith and a Methodist since birth, though he was a communicant of Christ Church Episcopal for over twenty-five years, with his wife, Kathleen, and sons. He was a world traveler and enjoyed visiting Montana, Wyoming, and Europe. Colonel Gresham's favorite pastime was enjoying the outdoors on the family farm with his family and loyal dogs. He also enjoyed communicating with his Air Force buddies, and taking care of his parents, to whom he was deeply devoted. Steve's legacy lives on through his works as a community leader, volunteer, soldier, and mannerly Southern gentleman. Steve is, and will always be, loved and missed by his family and all that knew him.
