Lu Alice Real was born December 5, 1932 near Gravois Mills, Morgan County, MO, the only child of the late Clyde James and Vera Olive (Webster) Kidwell, who were both descendants of Colonial families. She was reared on a hill farm near Gravois Mills and many valuable life lessons were learned there. Her grade school years were completed at the Gravois Mills School, and she graduated from Versailles High School in 1950, earning a scholarship to Warrensburg State College. However, in June of that same year she was united in matrimony with Forrest Donald Crowson. They resided in Denver, Colorado for five years where her children were born. In 1965 she married Rex Norman Real, who preceded her in death in 2009. She and Rex lived in Sedalia, MO. In 2012, she moved to Blue Springs, MO to be near her family. Lu Alice had many interests. She participated in music and other organizations, both in church and school as a youth. While she lived in Versailles in the early 60’s, she was active in PTA, the Girl Scouts, and helped integrate the Girl Scouts in that area. After she moved to Sedalia, she was manager of the Sperry & Hutchinson CO. for 14 years and was employed by the US Census Bureau for 5 years. She became a side-chair genealogist and had compiled several books and albums. She was always willing to help others interested in family history. Her biggest loves were her faith and her family. She had been involved in church music most of her life., was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, serving in the choir, and was the choir director for several years. Upon moving to Blue Springs, she transferred her membership to St. John LaLande Catholic Church. Lu Alice was a charter member of the Sedalia Sweet Adelines, where she was active for several years. She was a past member and one time officer of the Altrusa Club in Sedalia. and member of and former officer of the Missouri Right to Life, Sedalia Chapter, and was an avid right to life supporter. Lu Alice was a member of the Daughters of Isabella #310 and a past member of the Helen G. Steele Music Club, member of the Sedalia Osage Chapter of the DAR, changing her membership to the Blue Springs Chapter when she moved there. She spent much time and love helping families of alcoholics for over 40 years. Her spare time hobbies were reading, sewing, bird watching and gardening. She loved life, had an insatiable curiosity and never stopped her self education. Survivors include her two daughters, Sally Elizabeth Westerhold (Ron), Susan Dell Buckley, and companion, Mark Johnson, two step daughters, Kris Amen (Chris), Rexene Manecke, a foster daughter, Betty Krah, grandchildren, Fred “Trey” Buckley III, Cherish Caputo (Tony), Melissa Davis (Chris), William Buckley, Danielle Orr (Jim), Ketrin Adam (Chad), Cory Oravecz (Janell), Kristen Hopkins, Kyle Westerhold (Tammy), Ashley Akers (Josh), Blakeley Nolte (Todd), Scott Manecke, Heather Hanna and April Sullivan, great grandchildren, Charlie Buckley, Giuliana and Minnie Caputo, Mason Davis, Daphne Westerhold (Dominic), Cole and Josie Orr, Jack Adam, Ava Adam, Emmy Lu Adam, Edison and Ben Oravecz, Hayle Hannah, Reese, Beckett and Lola Nolte, Wyatt Sullivan, Sarah and John Moore, Drake Hopkins, Dennis Smeltzer III, Avry Robinson ,and many other relatives and friends. Lu Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Rex on October 9, 2009; her foster son, Rick Buckley, Jr.; and a grandson, Patrick Buckley in 2017.
