Description	:	LuAnn Carhill, was born at the Kings Daughters Hospital in Perry, Iowa, to William (Bill) and Helen (Bodansky) Meier. She was proud that her parents thoughtfully picked her name with two n's on the end in honor of her grandfather, Johann Meier. She was proud that her parents thoughtfully picked her name with two n's on the end in honor of her grandfather, Johann Meier. LuAnn went to school at the Friedrichsen and Junction country schools until 9th grade. She graduated from Perry High School in 1954. On June 26, 1955, LuAnn married Donald Edward Carhill, and they moved to the farm 1 mile from where she grew up, and where they have since lived. LuAnn and Donald were blessed with a son, Dale, and daughter, Cindy. LuAnn was baptized May 3, 1936, and confirmed on February 5, 1950, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bouton. Her faith was a central part of her life. She continued to be active in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bouton where she served as a Deacon and assisted with the Lutheran Church Ladies Aide. LuAnn worked for Asgrow Seed for 19 years as a Field Checker, traveling a large area in Iowa and Nebraska. She enjoyed it and her work family, but it was her monetary paying job in this life. LuAnn's other work in this life was paid by her own happiness from serving God. her family and others, simply paid by the joy and gratitude of other people and creatures of God. She loved and cared for many people and she and Don supported and took pride in their children and their activities, including 4-H. You could always count on a great meal and conversation at LuAnn's kitchen table, and a helping hand when you needed one. Her angel food cakes were famous throughout the countryside. LuAnn and Don were the family and area 'historians' with a wealth of pictures, newspaper clippings and lots of facts and tales. LuAnn was, and always will be, very well loved. LuAnn also shared her love with animals. The animals were served warm oatmeal during the cold winters and she graciously provided them with separate heating pads. In the winter time, large numbers of feral cats were piled on heating pads in the shed when she opened the door to feed them each morning. Her bird friends provided her much joy and they were fed generously. LuAnn made bird baths of cake pans and made sure that they never had any ice in them throughout the winter. LuAnn loved to be outdoors. Her garden was always a source of joy and she had just finished canning tomatoes before she become ill. She landscaped the farm prolifically with many types of perennials and flowers for butterflies, bees and birds. Her garden beds were artfully and sentimentally furnished with favorite items including her Uncle Walter Meier's boots, and boots and tennis shoes from her nephews and grandchildren. She also loved to travel and go camping attending many state fairs with family and friends. LuAnn was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Warren, and his wife, Coleen. LuAnn's services were held on September 26, 2012, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bouton, Iowa. Hastings Funeral Home in Perry, Iowa, were in charge of her arrangements.
