Lucille Annear Baker of Salem Lutheran Home of Elk Horn quietly went home to be with her Lord and her many loved ones December 17, 1994. She was born December 16, 1906 on a farm near Glidden in Carroll County. She was the oldest of six children born to John and Della Livingston Annear. She attended grade school and two years of high school in one of the first consolidated schools in Carroll County, had two additional years of high school in Glidden, and graduated from Iowa State College (now Iowa State University) with a B.S. Degree in 1929. In 1930 Lucille married Charles T. Baker of North Grosvenordale, Connecticut. They were blessed with two sons and one daughter. Lucille was a homemaker and mother all of her married life of sixty-two years. She taught Home Economics before and after her marriage and also did substitute teaching a few years in the Des Moines public schools. She was active in PTA, a Methodist Hospital Snack Bar volunteer and had charge of many family night meals at First Federated Church, Des Moines. She was active in Railway Mail Auxiliary connected with her husband's employment and served as coordinator and guide to establish Bible Study and prayer groups with the Christian Womens Club in Apache Junction, Arizona and Bella Vista, Arkansas. She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church. She kept house on farms, in cities, in an Airstream trailer and in mobile homes and always knew a home is where your heart is. Survivors include her three children Dick Baker and wife, Shirley, of Lyons, Colorado; Curtis Baker and wife, Shirley, of Bethany, Missouri and Joyce Petersen and husband, Lynn, of Elk Horn; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one brother, Bruce Annear and wife, Alice, of Coon Rapids; one sister, Grace Overton and husband, Everett, of Indianola; brother-in-law, Randall State and wife, Alice, of Manchester; sister-in-law, Betty Annear, of Ida Grove; brother-in-law, Leon Baker and wife, Lillian, of Ontario, Canada; sisters-in-law: Ethel Allan of Springfield, Massachusetts and Olive Scott of Auburn, New York; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
