Mrs. Poeppe, 97, died Thursday, Sept. 13, at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital in Lake City. The Rev. Robert Brown will preside at the Mass. Lectors will be Keri Poeppe and Michelle Egan. Casket bearers will be Denis Schulte, Larry Schulte, Jeff Poeppe, Douglas Poeppe, Darren Poeppe, Vincent Wernimont, Ted Wernimont, and Steve Wernimont. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation started and the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Altar Society prayed a rosary this afternoon at Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. There will be a Christian wake service at 7:30 tonight at the funeral home. Born March 23, 1904, at Arcadia, she was a daughter of Herman and Johanna (Haverkamp) Leiting. She spent her younger years in the Arcadia community and attended St. John Schools. She and Theodore Poeppe were married April 23, 1924, at St. John Church in Arcadia. The Poeppes farmed east of Mount Carmel and in 1929 began farming in the Willey area. In 1935 they moved to their farm northeast of Mount Carmel. They retired in 1965 and moved into town. Mrs. Poeppe moved to Shady Oak's Nursing Home in Lake City in 1998. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish and its Altar Society. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and Chicago Cubs baseball. Survivors include nine children and their spouses; Joan Schulte of Breda, Lois and Leon Wenzel of Wall Lake, Lorin and Ethel Poeppe of Torrington, Wyo., Donna and Lemker, of Carroll; and three sisters-in-law; Catherine Leiting of Carroll, Mary Leiting of Carroll and Colette Stork of Emmetsburg. Mrs. Poeppe was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Theodore, in 1991; a son, Clair, in infancy; a son-in-law, Urban Schulte; a great=grandchild, Summer Schulte; three brothers: Jack, Herman and Lawrence Leiting; and four sisters: Mary Millenacker, Liz Freicks, Kate Loeffelholz and Rose Manneman.
