Lucille Bernice Lindquist was born on July 5, 1917 in Antelope, MT to Emil and Emma (Erickson) Lindquist. Lucille was one of 10 children (Raymond, Wilfred, Alphield, Clarence, Emily, Alvera, Mildred, Ella and Earl). In 1929 her family moved from Montana to Hettinger, ND where she attended junior high and high school, graduating in 1935. She continued her education by attending Dickinson State College and the University of Montana. Lucille taught elementary school in Terry, MT for 3 years and she also taught for 2 years in Regent, ND. Lucille was married to James C. Clement on July 2, 1942 prior to his induction into the Army. As a war bride, Lucille followed James during his training from Texas to California to Pennsylvania and Mississippi. She returned to Hettinger after James was deployed to the European Theatre. After the war, Lucille and James made their home in Hettinger and began their life together in a marriage that would last over 69 years. Lucille was active in the Lutheran Church, serving as Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher and a member of her church circle. She belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary and the Hiddenwood Chapter of Eastern Star. Always the quintessential lady, Lucille was the embodiment of poise, grace and kindness. Her devotion to her husband and her family defined her life. She loved her home, yard and flowers. She enjoyed camping and fishing with her husband. She enjoyed her ladies bridge club and its fellowship of friends. She especially loved being around her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lucille passed away on Friday, March 2, 2012 at the Western Horizon's Care Center in Hettinger, ND. Lucille is survived by her three children; Ceil Anne Clement, of Hettinger, Dr. James C. (Loah) Clement, Mandan, ND and Linda (Gary) Schultz, Harwood, ND. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Jason (Petra) Clement, Angie (Derrick) Dukart, Jackie (Brandon) Atkins, Joie (John) Johnson and John Clement; six great grandchildren and many neices and nephews. Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, James, her parents, her nine brothers and sisters and a grandson, Tom Clement. Memorial may be sent to the Dakota Buttes Historical Society in Hettinger, ND.
