Description	:	Blanche was born April 25, 1929, and went to her rest on April 11, 2009 just two weeks before her 80th birthday. For the past two and one-half years she was a resident at Frye’s Care Home facing her greatest challenge, Alzheimer’s. Read More	Blanche was born April 25, 1929, and went to her rest on April 11, 2009 just two weeks before her 80th birthday. For the past two and one-half years she was a resident at Frye’s Care Home facing her greatest challenge, Alzheimer’s. Blanche and her husband Joe Grinsell would have been married 59 years on July 7th. Blanche leaves behind a loving family and numerous friends and relatives. The youngest daughter of Louis B. Lanini and Lucille Robarts Lanini, Blanche grew up in Ferndale, attending Ferndale Elementary School and Ferndale High School where she played the drums in the school band and was also a cheerleader. After High School Blanche attended Dominican College in San Rafael and while in college her greatest thrill was a trip to Europe on the Queen Mary. In July 1950 Joe and Blanche were married and made their first home on Schley Avenue. Bye, as she was affectionately known by her close friends and family, was always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need. She spent many hours painting and wallpapering for friends, organizing many a fund raiser for schools and even helping to get “Friends of Hospice” set up in Ferndale after the death of her father. After the 64’ flood she spent countless hours helping several friends clean the silt out of their homes. She was selfless in all that she did and always thought of others before herself, not only giving of her time and talents (of which there were many) but her home as well. Many summers there were extra mouths at the kitchen table as cousins and friends spent the summer on the Grinsell ranch. Mom always said “what’s one more mouth to feed”. Everyone was welcome! There was always an open door policy at the Grinsell home and many a slumber party, after prom breakfast, and poster making party were held out at Centerville Road. Blanche loved bowling, playing cards, especially when she was winning, golfing and spending time with friends and family. Blanche spent countless hours patiently teaching her grandchildren how to play the card game Spite and Malice. She also loved entertaining her children and grandchildren as they were growing up by demonstrating her drumming skills and her school cheers from the 40’s. Blanche loved the outdoors, and as a Blue Bird and Campfire leader for both her daughters took her groups on many a campout. She loved animals! There was no one who could make a better “live trap” to catch many a pet hamster who got loose in the house! Her children would bring her baby birds and raccoons they found and she would nurse them with an eyedropper, waking up every two hours to feed her little critters. Blanche was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Lucille Lanini, and her sisters, Frances Brennen and Loie Jean Cook. Blanche is survived by her husband, Joe, daughter, Terri Harrington, son-in-law, Ralph, son, Jim Grinsell and daughter in law, Susan, son, Tim Grinsell, and daughter in law, Denise, daughter, Julie Cruz, and son-in-law, Tim, and son, Tom Grinsell and Crystal Morgan. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jenni Khoury, Jamie Sehon, Jed Cruz, Tyson Cruz, Jacob Cruz, Tami Toste, Travis Grinsell, Jeri Grinsell, Jodi Grinsell and Tristan Morgan. Blanche also was blessed to have 4 great grandchildren, Madison and Macie Sehon, Ava Rose Toste and Mikayla Grinsell. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dolly Frye and all the wonderful caregivers who took such good care of Blanche at Frye’s Care Home. A special thank you to Hospice of Humboldt and mom’s nurse Cathy. At Blanche’s request there will be no formal service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Blanche’s name to Hospice of Humboldt, Alzheimer’s Association or your favorite charity.
