Her family will greet friends at The Kahl Home Thursday from 12:30 p.m. until the mass time. Mrs. Menke passed away Monday, September 18, 2017 at The Kahl Home. Lucille Catherine Hellige was born January 21, 1924 in Fort Madison, Iowa the daughter of Herman J. and Anna (Richelman) Hellige. She graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1942. In earlier years Lucille worked at Sheaffer Pen Company and Auge Floral Company both in Fort Madison. Lucill was united in marriage to Ralph E. Menke on November 3, 1945 at St. Mary’s Church in Fort Madison. Lucille was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Holy Family parish, the Catholic Ladies Auxiliary and the Resurrection Choir all in Ft. Madison. She enjoyed ballroom dancing, traveling, bowling and was a member of the Senior Citizen League for several years. Her family and grandchildren were her greatest pride and joy. Genealogy research was an interest in which she wrote two family books which were printed for family members. Survivors include her husband, Ralph, and their children and spouses, Steve Alan (Barb) Menke, Lawrence, KS, Gregory Richard Menke, West Point, IA, Judy K. (Norb) Pranger, Davenport, Kristen S. (Daniel) Swanson, Azle, TX; ten grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a grandson Dan Menke; four sisters Dorothy Jane Hellige, Virginia Reeder, Irene Douglas and Jennie Mae Geske; and a brother Robert John Hellige.
