Description	:	Lucille Dora (Backhaus) Kruse (1917 - 1988) Lucille Dora Kruse, the daughter of Carl and Clara Schumann Backhaus, was born near Schleswig, Iowa, on March 20, 1917. She died at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, on August 24, 1988, at the age of 71 years. Read More	Lucille Dora (Backhaus) Kruse (1917 - 1988) Lucille Dora Kruse, the daughter of Carl and Clara Schumann Backhaus, was born near Schleswig, Iowa, on March 20, 1917. She died at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, on August 24, 1988, at the age of 71 years. Lucille attended a rural school near Schleswig and helped care for her mother after her education. On November 15, 1942, Lucille and Vern Kruse of Kenwood, Iowa, were united in marriage at Schleswig, Iowa, to which this union was blessed with one son, Verdean. Vern and Lucille farmed near Kenwood for several years, later moving to a farm east of Schleswig, where they made their home until moving into Denison in 1968. Lucille worked as a nurse's aid for 18 years until her health failed. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Denison and also a member of the Ladies Aid and the Evening Guild of the church. Her greatest enjoyment was her flowers, gardening and sewing. Preceding Lucille in death were her parents and two brothers. Survivors include her husband, Vern of Denison; one son, Verdean Kruse and his wife Linda of Ida Grove; two grandsons: Todd Kruse, a student at Ames and Troy Kruse of Ida Grove. Also surviving are two sisters: Gertrude Ernst of Schleswig and Fern and her husband, Alvin Stier of Schleswig and one brother, Carl Backhaus Jr. and his wife, Janet of Aurelia. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 27, 1988, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Pastor Kurt Kaiser officiated at the services and graveside rites at the Morgan Cemetery near Schleswig. Mrs. Darold Kahl was the organist for Henry Henningsen as soloist and congregational singing. Selections were "I'm But a Stranger Here, Heaven Is My Home", "Abide With Me" and "I Know That My Redeemer Lives." Serving as pallbearers were Bud Barnes, Randy Kruse, Frank Sisson, Lawrence Griffin, Larry Maack and Herbert Quandt.
