She was born on September 20, 1932, in Sioux Falls to Hans and Mable Nelson. Read More	Lucile Joan Aschoff, a devoted wife, mother and lover of literature, music, and art, passed away on September 27, 2020. She was 88. She was born on September 20, 1932, in Sioux Falls to Hans and Mable Nelson. She graduated from Washington Senior High School in 1951 and worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company as a telephone operator. She married Francis Henry “Dick” Aschoff after an introduction by Dick’s sister. He was her best friend and beloved husband for 42 years. They had four daughters and one bathroom, but their home was filled with the music of Chopin and the Beatles, and often, the call from the kitchen of the world’s best cherry pie. Upon Dick’s retirement, Lucile and Dick enjoyed traveling and spending time with their daughters and grandchildren. Mrs. Aschoff volunteered at McKennan Hospital and the Civic Fine Arts Center. She also worked part-time at Jordahls, JC Penny’s, and Michael’s and Burke’s department stores. She was a longtime member of Christ the King and St. Mary Catholic Churches. She spent time in a hiking and exercise club and hunting treasures in antique stores. She loved a competitive game of scrabble. An avid reader and lover of the arts, she instilled in her children and grandchildren an appreciation for the beauty in all things and the daily practice of kindness. Lucile was preceded in death by her husband: Dick; and three brothers: Darrell, Robert, and Warren Nelsen. Survivors include a sister: Shirley; four daughters: Susan Aschoff, Washington, DC, Paula Boehmer, Theresa (Larry) Plucker, both of Sioux Falls, SD, and Amy (Mark) Stoefen, Indian Rocks, FL; eight grandchildren: James, Adam, Hannah, Taylor, Sam, Jordan, Gage and Ayden; and five great-grandchildren; Sydelle, Camille, Charlotte, Peyton and Dean. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to; Meals on Wheels, Senior Companion/Active Generation or the Salvation Army. Visitation will be Thursday, October 1, 9:30 AM at St. Mary Church with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM. - Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home
