Read More	Lucille McWhirter, age 86, died Friday, November 26, 2994 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, KS. She was born Oct 27, 1918 in Lane County, KS. to George and Lelah (Lawrence) Mumma. She married Elgin C. McWhirter on February 7, 1940 at Scott City, KS. He died May 30, 2004. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Dighton and The National Wildlife Society. Lucille lived her entire live in Lane County. Born on a farm southwest of Dighton, at the age of 2 she moved with her family to a farm 7 miles northwest of Dighton, where she grew up and attended a small county school. She graduated from Dighton in 1938. After her marriage she and her husband moved to a farm southwest of Dighton where she has resided since. Lucille spent her life working side by side with her husband. She also was a avid worker in the kitchen for various function at the Methodist Church, until her health prevented it. In her spare time she pieced quilts, and cocheted afgans, etc. for her many relatives and friends. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother, Delmar and 1 sister, Irene Houghton. Survivors include; Son, Neil McWhirter and Sara, Dighton; 1 grandson, Kenneth and Sonya, Dighton; 3 granddaughters, Tara McWhirter, Dighton, Marlene and Tim O'Brien, Dighton, Regina and Keith Ming, Dighton, 2 great-granddaughter, Madison and Kenadee O'Brien; 2 brothers Donald Mumma, Salida, CO. and Chester Mumma, Longmont, CO. Funeral services were held Tuesday November 30,2004 at 10:30 at the United Methodist in Dighton with Rev. David Randall officiating. Special music, "The Old Rugged Cross." and "Wing of A Dove," were sung by solist Loren Campbell, accompanied by organist Delores Paris. Casket bearers were Bill Wolford, Leon Vandiver, Kent Borell, Jason, Schmidt, and Shane Stanley. Honorary Casket Bearers were Heath Albert, Alan Selfridge, Ron Schwartz, Norman Parker, Mark von Leonard, and Randy Whipple. Burial was in the Dighton Memorial Cemetery, Dighton, KS. Memorials were suggested to the McWhirter Museum Foundation or United Methodist Church in care of the Boomhower Funeral Home, Dighton, KS. From Dighton Herald December 1. 2004 page 2.
