McMillan Another Asotin county pioneer woman, namely Mrs. M. McMillan whose residence dates back 47 years, has answered the final summons, passing away last Thursday eveining December 9th, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ira Talbot, at Stites, Idaho, after an illness of three weeks, due to a slight paralytic stroke. Her children were all at her beside when the end came. The funeral was conducted from Merchant's chapel, in Asotin Sunday afternoon, by Rev. J.B. York of the Baptist church, and burial was made in the Anatone cemetery, beside the remains of her husband, who died twenty-two years ago. Mrs. McMillan, whose maiden name was Lucinda Mellott was born in Ft. Wayne, Monrow Co., Ohio, March 31, 1843, making her 83 years, 8 months and 22 days of age at the time of death. On September 19, 1861, she was united in marriage to Morrison McMillan at Sparta, Wisconsin. To this union were born eight children-four sons and four daughters, five of whom are living. Orlando, the eldest son, died in Montan two years ago, and one son and one daughter died in infancy. Following her marriage, Mrs. McMillan continued her residence in Wisconsin until 1869, and then moved with her husband and family to Minnesota, where they remained until 1877; and from there crossed the plains in pioneer emigrant manner, with team and located at Baker City, Oregon, remaining there two years. In 1879, the family then moved to what is now Asotin County, Washington, though at the time it was known as Columbia county, settling on Montgomery ridge, where she resided the greater part of her life. She knew what pioneer hardships were, but endured them with patience and fortitude--always of a kind and sunshiny disposition, ever ready to do a kindness and share of what she had with friend or neighbor. She became a member of the Baptist church at the age of 18, but later in life united with the First Day Advent church, and remained with that church throughout the remainder of her life. The living children are as follows: Wm. G. McMillan, Valleyford, Wash.; Mrs. R.C. Stone, Herbert L. McMillan and Mrs. William Miller of Asotin; and Mrs. Ira Talbott, Stites, Idaho. She is also survived by thirty-one grand children and thirty great-grandchildren.
