Later the family moved to their home in Valley County. She received her elementary education in the nearby rural schools. Lucy graduated from North Loup High School. Following her graduation, she attended Kearney State College, received her Jr. Elementary degree. Mrs. Hoon taught in Valley, Howard and Greeley County schools. Later the family moved to their home in Valley County. She received her elementary education in the nearby rural schools. Lucy graduated from North Loup High School. Following her graduation, she attended Kearney State College, received her Jr. Elementary degree. Mrs. Hoon taught in Valley, Howard and Greeley County schools. She had been the second grade teacher in Wolbach public schools for seven years. Lucy was married to Ray Hoon on September 20, 1928 in North Loup. They set up housekeeping in South Dakota. Later they moved to Howard County where they farmed. Two children were born to this union: a son Carl Ray and a daughter, Darlene Agnes. Mrs. Hoon was a member of the Methodist faith. She was also a member of the WSCS Society and the Fairview Extension Club. Lucy enjoyed helping people. She especially enjoyed remembering people with a card or with some deed of kindness. Mrs. Hoon became critically ill last September and entered the St. Francis hospital. She had come home in November. Mrs. Hoon re-entered the hospital January 26, 1971 where on Monday evening, February 8th, death came to her. She was preceded in death by her parents. Surviving her are her husband Ray of St. Paul; the son Carl Ray of St. Louis, Missouri and the daughter, Mrs James (Darlene) Pierce of Fairbury; five grandsons, Carl Ray, Jr., Robert J., Kenneth and John Hoon and Mark Pierce and one granddaughter, Paula Pierce; three sisters, Mrs. Clifford (Anna) Scott of St. Paul, Mrs. John (Elvira) Stensvad of North Platte, Mrs. Martin (Agnes) Baldwin of Farwell,; two brothers, Morris Anderson of St. Paul and Carl of Boise, Idaho; several nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
