Lucy Christina (Kleinschmit) Brotsky was born December 27, 1912, at Menominee, Nebraska, to Henry and Mary (Kast) Kleinschmit. She moved to Gregory County, South Dakota, with her family, where she attended country school. On August 17, 1933, she married Floyd T. Brotsky at Paxton, South Dakota. The Brotskys ranched in the Paxton area until 1956 when they moved to Brookings. Lucy worked for the J.C. Penney and Ben Franklin stores in Brookings. Floyd died January 8, 1975. Lucy was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Parish in Brookings and the Catholic Daughters. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, playing bridge, music, traveling, and going for rides in the countryside. Survivors include three sons, a daughter, seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers. She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers: Frank, Joseph, Lawrence, Peter, and Paul; two sisters, Elizabeth and Rosina; and a grandson, Mark Brotsky.
