Burial will be in Double Branch Baptist Church Cemetery in Pinehill Community. Mrs. Rice died Sunday, April 3, at Providence Hospital in Columbia after a brief illness. She was born March 28, 1927, at Pinehill, a daughter of the late Andrew Lauren and Julia M. Houck Rutland. She graduated from Orangeburg High School, Tri-County School of Nursing and the Cadet Nursing Program at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. She worked as a registered nurse at the Savannah River site for 10 years and as a nurse and nursing supervisor at Bamberg Memorial Hospital for 28 years, a job she dearly loved. She was a member of Canaan Baptist Church, and a member of the Retired Nursing Association. Mrs. Rice was a much beloved member of her family and community. She was a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 2779. She enjoyed traveling, playing piano, nursing and was an enthusiastic gardener. Her much-loved siblings who predeceased her were Norma R. Bolin, Thelma R. Metts, Webber A. Rutland, Alma R. Kirkland, Nell R. Strock, R. Dwight Rutland Sr. and E. Roslyn Rutland. Mrs. Rice is survived by her loving daughter, Julie Rosalind Rice of Canaan; a sister, Merle R. Stevenson of Canaan; her sisters-in-law, Ruth M. Rutland of Bamberg and Blanche F.
