Cameron Funeral services for Mrs. Lucy E. Cameron, 91, who died at 10:30 A.M. Friday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Roger Faris, East Main Street, city, were held at 2 P.M. Monday, at the D. M. Evans Funeral Home. Rev. . Paul Jones officiated and burial was in the Hillsboro Cemetery. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hull, Mrs. Cameron was born in Pennsylvania. Besides the daughter with whom she resided, she is survived by two other daughters, Mrs. Jesse Patton, Hillsboro Rt. 8, and Mrs. Ernest Swisshelm, Hillsboro; three sons, Claude, Hillsboro Rt. 6, Arch, Hillsboro Rt. 4, and Albert of Columbus; one half-brother, Edward Frye, who lives in Pennsylvania; 20 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren. "The Times Gazette", Hillsboro, Ohio 4/30/1954 In Memoriam Lucy Cameron, born Dec. 6, 1862, near Harrisburg, Pa., departed this life April 16, 1954, age 91 years, 4 months and 10 days. Lucy Hull was united in marriage to David Edward Cameron in 1884, at Cynthiana, Ohio. To this union were born eight children, two of whom Freddie and Fannie Muriel Cameron, and the father and husband, have preceded grandmother to the great beyond. The surviving children, Albert F. of Columbus, Arch and Claude of Marshall, Mrs. Bessie Patton of Marshall, Mrs. Maude Swisshelm and Mrs. Margaret Faris of Hillsboro, twenty grandchildren and forty-one great-grandchildren, along with a half-brother of Harrisburg, Pa., and many friends, mourn her departure. "Aunt Lucy," as she was so lovingly called by every one will be greatly missed. She had a philosophy of life that was exemplified by acts of devotion and kindness to all those who knew her best. She had a fine sense of humor and a keen mind until within the last few years. Mother Cameron believed that "faith without works is dead," and that true Christianity is not only in believing but also in doing as those who knew her best will attest. Like Oliver Goldsmith in the poem, The Deserted Village, her home and its open door to her children, grandchildren and friends will long be remembered. Here was the stopping place for children, grandchildren on Saturdays and the evenings while the older ones shopped. Her admonition, her cherry smile and friendly laugh along with her witticisms on all the affairs of the world about her will not be forgotten. When she and her husband settled on the farm about 1890, she devoted many years to the hardest type of toil of the farm wife in helping to rear a family of boys and girls and to train them in all things that were worthwhile. She was a devoted mother and help-mate to her husband. The Cameron Clan has lost a loyal and devoted member who always was in attendance even when advanced in years. Yes, Aunt Lucy, our mother and grandmother, gave a life devoted to her family, her friends, her country, and her God. She was a staunch supporter of the Methodist Church at Marshall for many years but her advanced years prevented her attendance many times. Later she transferred her membership to the Methodist Church here in Hillsboro but was not always able to attend. The infirmities of age imposed a heavy burden on the immediate families of her children in Hillsboro and vicinity with each one trying to make life a happy one. Recently she said, "God has blest me so much. I am so thankful." I am sure these thoughts from Tennyson would be hers if she could speak them to us now. Sunset and evening star, And one clear call for me. And may there be no moaning of the bar, When I put out to sea. But such a tide as moving seems asleep To full for sound and foam, When that which drew from out the boundless deep Turns again home. Twilight and evening bell, And after that the dark. And may there be no sadness of farewell When I embark. For tho' from out our bourne of Time and Place The tide may bear me far, I hope to see my pilot face to face, When I have crossed the bar. Yes, Grandmother has left us, her chair is vacant but her immortal soul lives on. The good that was hers is to be remembered, the faults, the frailties of our human bodies will be forgotten. Her admonition to do your best for your fellowmen, your country and your God will strengthen us in the adversities of life and help us to be worthy citizens of our country.
