Lucy lived with her family in Hulett, Wyoming for a short time then moved to Montana in 1914 where she attended school. Hanna, 92, a long time resident of East Wenatchee, passed away Monday, January 19, 2004. Lucy was born September 7, 1911 at Sutherland Nebraska to Sherman B. and Emma Jeanette (Haskins) Fordyce. Lucy lived with her family in Hulett, Wyoming for a short time then moved to Montana in 1914 where she attended school. Halfway through high school Lucy moved with her family to Spokane, Washington where she graduated from North Central High School. After high school Lucy attended Montana State where she studied education. She taught school for many years after college in rural schools in southeastern Washington. In 1930 Lucy married John M. Hill and they settled on a ranch in Mizpah. The couple had two daughters, Shirley and Donna. The family moved to Ellensburg in 1938. John passed away in 1959. Lucy went back to school and finished her degree at Central Washington University. After graduating she taught at Sunset School in Selah for 5 years. She moved to East Wenatchee to teach at Robert E. Lee School until her retirement. In 1968 she married Douglas G. Hanna with whom she spent many wonderful years R.V. traveling in the U.S. and Canada, visiting all the states except one. Lucy had a special interest in historical places. She loved to travel, camp with friends, read, and play pinochle and cribbage. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles. Lucy was a member of the Washington State Retired Teachers, the First Baptist Church, East Valley Homemakers, the Boating Club of Wenatchee, and the East Wenatchee Grange. A funeral service will be held in Lucy's honor Friday, January 23, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at Jones & Jones Colonial Chapel. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. A time of visitation will be Thursday, January 22, 2004 from 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at Jones & Jones Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Sunnyslope Church at 3330 School St., Wenatchee, WA 98801. Jones & Jones Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
