Description	:	Last Sunday afternoon Lucy Iva Ball, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Ball, of Flat River [St. Francois County, MO], committed suicide by shooting herself in the right temple with a revolver. She died about two hours after firing the shot. The funeral was conducted at the Christian Church, Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock by the pastor, Rev. M. P. Pierson. She died about two hours after firing the shot. The funeral was conducted at the Christian Church, Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock by the pastor, Rev. M. P. Pierson. Up to the time of going to press no reason for the act has been found. She seemed in the best of spirits all day and although the morning was rainy, she went to Sunday School as usual accompanied by her sister, Gertrude. She took part in the class recitation and in the singing as usual. After dinner she went to the station to meet her mother and little brother and when they returned home she expressed a desire to accompany some girl friends up town to get some ice cream. She was sitting on the porch talking with her mother and one of her girl friends waiting for another friend who was to meet them there when she suddenly sprang to her feet and rushing past her mother ran up stairs. Her mother followed her into the house and was just about to call to her when the shot rang out and she heard her daughter fall. Mrs. Ball called to her husband, who was at the filling station a short distance from the house and he went at once to her. She was unconscious when they found her and never regained consciousness. Lucy Iva Ball was born Oct. 25, 1900, and departed this life April 1, 1917, at the age of 16 years, 5 months and 7 days. She united with the Christian Church by primary obedience Dec. 15, 1911. She was greatly interested in both Sunday School and Christian Endeavor. She leaves behind her father and mother, four brothers, Byron, Otto, Denver and Woodrow and one sister, Gertrude, besides her grandparents and other relatives. She will be missed greatly, not only in her home but in her circle of friends and in her Sunday School class. The interment was in Parkview Cemetery. [The Desloge Sun, April 16, 1917]
