Mr. and Mrs. Bailey lost their eldest son, William P., by a distressing accident on the railroad at Colo, Story County, Iowa, in 1892. They have ten living children; George , a resident of Story County; Lucy, wife of William Chaffin, of Polk County; Myra, Marion, Jesse, Mary, Elzada V., Sarah, Harriett and Laura." The subject of this notice, Miss Sarah Hall, was born July 26, 1826, near Canton, Ohio. At the age of 17, she removed with her parents to Noble county, Indiana. She was united in marriage to Perry Dempsy August 12, 1844, and moved to Washington twp., Polk Co., the summer of 1865, where she lived till removed by death September 17, 1901, aged 75 years, 1 month and 22 days. She was the mother of six children, all living except Mary Coe, who preceded her mother August 7, 1877. Those living are Mrs. Anna Reagan, Fredonia, Kansas; Mrs. Jane Bailey, Valeria, Iowa; Mr. Wm. H. Dempsey, Winona, Kansas; Lydia A. Coe, Ottumwa, Iowa; Eugene Dempsey, who lives in Washington township, Iowa..." Lucy Jane Dempsey was born near Ligonier, Indiana, and when she was 18 years old moved with her parents, Perry E. and Sarah Hall Dempsey, to Peoria City, Iowa in Polk County. Their first child, William Perry, was born at the Benjamin Bailey home in 1867. The other eleven children were born in James and Lucy's own home southwest of Mingo. The eleven were: George Walter, Lucy Lucinda, Marion Edwin, Miriam Ammeretta, Jess Roy, Mary C. (who married Garrett Akins), Elzaida Valeria, Sarah D., Harriett M., Cathrine, and Laura Irene Bailey. James died at his home at the age of 85 years. Jane moved into Mingo with her daughter, Elzaida, and died there at the age of 91 years."
