Williams -- Lucy M. Imus was born at Galesburg Illinois July 4, 1852, and died at Woodston, Kansas, September 27, 1926, aged 74 years, 2 months and 23 days. When she was 2 years old her parents moved to Ringold Co., Iowa, and settled four miles east of Mt. Ayr, where she grew to womanhood. Her father enlisted in the Union Army in 1861. Being one of a large family, she left the home of her childhood to support herself. She contracted to work for a school teacher for 50 cents a week and go to school, which agreement she continued to fulfill until her marriage to B. F. Williams July 4th 1870. Mr. Williams, also in young manhood looking toward self support, hired to the same man who had contracted with his future wife to work and go to school. Sister Williams was converted in 1870 and united with the Methodist Episcopal Church. They lived two years on a farm and moved to Creston, Iowa, he being employed for four years by a railroad company, then returning to the farm where they resided until the spring of 1885, when they settled in Osborne County, Kansas, and moved to Woodston, in 1898, where they engaged in the mercantile business, until his retirement five years ago, and have lived here ever since. To this union six children were born: Luretta Aversa, Avigil Ray, Burr Seldon, Bernice Faye, Leona Malissa, Bertha Alpharetta, all of whom were present except Leona Malissa, of San Diego, Calif. There are also 32 grand children, and 12 great grandchildren, and a brother and two sisters survive her to mourn their loss. We believe in the providence of God in human events to the smallest detail. No greater demonstration of that fact exists than the Williams family reunion this summer, where 65 of them, met for a few days and enjoyed a splendid dinner and an outing in the park as a climax to the gathering. Little did they think as they pressed mother's lips in a goodbye kiss that in a few short days those lips would bear the seal of death. We were thankful her suffering was very brief, when the reaper came he didn't have to tarry long for she was anxious to go. She was soothed and sustained by an unfaultering trust and fell asleep in Jesus, to be awakened by an angel song to join that innumerable company, gathered around the rainbow circled throne of the Lamb. The silver cord is loosed, the golden bowl is broken. The dust has returned to the earth as it was, the Spirit has returned to God, who gave it. Our departed sister, has remembered her Creator all the days of her life. Her husband will miss her, having walked together these many years, to part at the grave, and to clasp glad hands in Eternity. The Church, Sunday School, Ladies Aid, Missionary Society, Prayer Meeting, all will miss her; all her relatives and friends will miss her. We are not going to say goodbye, but God be with you till we meet again. Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church on Wednesday, the sermon being preached by Rev. R. R. Braddick. Interment was made in the Woodston cemetery.
