Lucy Mitchell, a Good Samaritan of Fort Peck Reservation, is Dead Wolf Point, March 25--Mrs. Ray Mitchell died at a local hospital Saturday after a short illness. Few, if any, women in this part of the state had a personal acquaintance with so many people, both Indians and whites. Lucy Mitchell was the daughter of Dan Mitchell of Poplar and was born on the present site of Poplar 37 years ago. She was of part Indian blood, said to be three-eighths, and was known to virtually all the Indians on the Fort Peck reservation, as well as many of the white people. She had cared for many sick persons and done many other acts of kindness for both races. She was sometimes employed by the sheriff's office in the capacity of police matron. She married a white man of her own name, Ray Mitchell, a stockman and manager of the Wolf Point stampedes. Mrs. Mitchell is survived by her husband, her father, a son of 18 by a former marriage, an uncle, Martin Mitchell of this city, and by three brothers and three sisters. She will be buried beside her mother at Poplar.
