She was born on August 2, 1920, on a farm near Eddyville, Iowa, the daughter of John and Sadie Marie (Newell) Wilson. The family returned to LeRoy, Kansas, when Luella was only a few weeks old. Read More	Luella Charlotte Steele (August 2, 1920 - January 9, 2015) Luella Charlotte Steele, 94, of Burlington, Kansas, passed away January 9, 2015, at the Life Care Center in Burlington. She was born on August 2, 1920, on a farm near Eddyville, Iowa, the daughter of John and Sadie Marie (Newell) Wilson. The family returned to LeRoy, Kansas, when Luella was only a few weeks old. Luella grew up in LeRoy and graduated from LeRoy High School in 1938. In the fall of 1938, she enrolled in the Hopper School of Cosmetology. She returned to LeRoy and owned and operated a Beauty Salon in 1939. On April 7, 1940, Luella and Orville E. Steele were married in Girard, Kansas. They were blessed with 2 daughters, Mary Lou and Linda Kay. Most of her married life was spent in Burlington with the exception of three years in Williamsburg, Kansas, where she operated a Beauty Salon from 1945 to 1947 and also worked in their Sundries Store. They also lived in Ottawa for three years from 1975 until 1978 where she worked as Clerk in the Probate Division of the District Court. In 1978 she and Orville returned to Burlington where she continued to work in the District Court until she retired in August of 1985. Luella was a member of the Burlington Christian Church. She was also a member of Martha Chapter #73, Order of Eastern Star, which later merged with LeRoy Chapter #83. She enjoyed the Arts of homemaking and enjoyed traveling. She loved her family and would do whatever she could to help them. Her husband, Orville, preceded her in death on December 30, 2005, following more than 65 years of marriage. Luella was also preceded by her parents; a daughter, Mary Lou Mast and her husband J.K.; and a sister, Geraldine Beine. She leaves her daughter, Linda K. Allen and husband Dan, of Burlington; seven grandchildren, Danielle Wootton and husband Paul, Jennifer Lewis and husband Thad, Brad Allen and wife Nilda, and Mike, Jerry, Doug, and Brett Mast; nine great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; a niece, Carolyn Sue Fiesthumel; many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 1:30 P.M. Friday, January 16, 2015, at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery in Burlington. There will be no formal visitation. Mrs. Steele will lie in state Thursday at the funeral home.
