Read More	From Newspaper Abstracts from the Villages of Columbiana and East Lewiston, Ohio by Dewayne McCarty, January 2008, Page 357& 358 2/11/1892 Died - Among the saddest events in the history of the Volant Normal Academy, none cast a deeper gloom of sorrow than did the death of Miss Ella Farrell, one of the lady students who died at the Academy Home last Wednesday morning, Feb. 3, 1893, surrounded by a number of her most intimate friends and schoolmates. Miss Farrell took an attack of la grippe about three days previous to her death and although the best of care had been given, the disease proved stronger than medical skill and good attendance, she passed peacefully away to meet her Master. Miss Farrell was the daughter of S. B. Farrell, of Fairfield Township, Columbiana County, Ohio, and was attending school here. The evening previous to her death, a telegram was sent to her sister in New Waterford, Ohio, stating the condition she was in, and asking her to come at once; but ere her sister had arrived another telegram was sent to her parents and various relations stating her death. No one can describe the sad scene and the sorrow of the friends who arrived from their respective homes to gather around the bedside of her whom they loved, and especially of that father and sister as they looked at their dear one, who so early in life with such bright prospects before her, was cut down by the grim reaper. No words could picture the grief which was manifest by those with whom she had so lately associated. Her schoolmates and all who had the pleasure of becoming acquainted with her before her death, felt they had lost a friend indeed, one whom no time could ever replace, or erace from the minds the memory of her who had often shown them acts of kindness. As a christian, she stood high in that profession and was considered by all as ripe for her Master’s kingdom. As a student, she was devoted to her studies. Her ability to learn was remarkable, standing high in all her grades, and if she had been spared would have finished her studies here with the highest honors. Not being permitted to receive an earthly diploma, she at the age of 19 years, was called to her Master school to receive a diploma, entitling her to the blessed privilege of mingling with the saints of lights in Christ’s mansions forevermore. The students of the Academy purchased a beautiful wreath of flowers, on which was printed the name of the instruction to which she belonged, and had it placed on the casket, and at 7:30 AM Thursday morning, the funeral services were conducted by Rev. Peters in the Academy Hall, after which the remains were escorted by the faculty, schoolmates and friends to the early train, and were conveyed to her home near Columbiana, Ohio. On Monday last the body was interred in the cemetery at East Fairfield, Ohio.
