Description	:	HICKLE, LUELLA LOUISE (SCHMITZ) Lou was born June 9, 1915, the third of ten children born to Fred and Hattie Schmitz, who were pioneers of the Lone Butte district south of Hanna. She married Ralph Hickle of Rose Lynn in 1934, living on the same farm until 1985. There they raised five children, Marlene, Gary, Stanley, Ray and Betty. Living through the 30’s, times were hard. A large garden provided food, and Lou always had rows of canning in the cellar, along with raising chickens and pigs. She married Ralph Hickle of Rose Lynn in 1934, living on the same farm until 1985. There they raised five children, Marlene, Gary, Stanley, Ray and Betty. Living through the 30’s, times were hard. A large garden provided food, and Lou always had rows of canning in the cellar, along with raising chickens and pigs. Lou loved going to the Homemaker’s Ladies Club meetings once a month, and was president for a while, then secretary for 25 years. She was active in Women of Unifarm, and after retiring to Hanna, volunteered to run the crib game every week at the Senior Circle, worked at the rummage sale, got to bingo whenever she could and was a faithful member of the United Church . Lou was predeceased by her husband Ralph, daughter Marlene, grandson Doug, great granddaughter Jennifer, and all of her siblings. She is survived by 16 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. The Hickle family would like to say thank you to everyone who took care of Lou in the Hanna Care Center after she broke her hip on Dec. 29. She remained in hospital until her passing on July 8 at the age of 99 years. A service of remembrance was held July 14, 2014 with Rev. Leila Currie officiating.
