Description	:	Luke Murray was a native of Co. Roscommon, Ireland. His parents were Luke and Margaret Murray. The names of Luke's parents were listed on the Death Register for Luke who died in the Town of East Greenwich, Rhode Island at the age of 72 years, 11 months, and 15 days. His parents were Luke and Margaret Murray. The names of Luke's parents were listed on the Death Register for Luke who died in the Town of East Greenwich, Rhode Island at the age of 72 years, 11 months, and 15 days. Luke immigrated to the United States sometime before before 1853 when Luke's son, John Henry Murray, was born in New York. According to a story handed down by Edward J. Murray, one of Luke's grandchildren. Luke was the only one in the family back in Ireland that immigrated to the United States. The handed down also noted that the his family back in Ireland lost touch with him. Edward J Murray learned this information when he meet with an indivdiual in Ireland he found through a newspaper ad he posted before traveling to Ireland and he later shared with his children that he believed this man to be a cousin. Luke lived for some time in New York (not sure of arrival date to the United States); however we do know that he was in New York by 1853 when his first son, John Henry, was born. Luke was Married to Ann Kelly Murray, also a native of Co. Roscommon. Luke and Ann had seven children: John, Mary, Teresa, James, Frank, Maggie, and Lizzie. Luke and his family moved to East Greenwich, Rhode Island in 1867/1868. Luke was a resident of East Greenwich for 3o years; where he lived with his family on Greene Street (Also known at one time as Murray Hill). For more than 20 years he was a gardiner for Henry G. Russel. In his obituary, Luke is described as having a quiet and gentlemanly manner. The obituary also stated that Luke had been ill for some time before his death. According to death records, Luke died from Senility - Cerebral Softening. Luke was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Church. It appears the family were active memebers of the church. The origianl church is not longer standing, but in the entrance way of the new church, Luke's name is listed on a board recogizing individuals who made donations to the church over the years. Luke's funeral was at Our Lady of Mercy and he is buried in Saint Patrick's Cemetery in East Greenwich, Rhode Island.
