Read More	Mr. Luke Morris Dead Last Sunday morning between 12 and 1 o'clock, Mr. Luke Morris, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Morris, died at the home of his parents a few miles from Columbia, after a long illness. The deceased was in his twenty-fourth year. When eighteen years old, he joined the navy, serving four years. He was sick when he reached home, more than two years ago, and was bedfast most of the time until his death. He was a young man of excellent character, one who had many friends, one who will be greatly missed. The funeral services were held at the residence Monday morning, many relatives and friends being present. The interment was in the family burying grounds. (Adair County News, May 1, 1912) Tribute to L.R. Morris If often gives us a feeling of gloom to see a young man or woman cut off just at the age when life seemed so full of promise. But when such life had first been consecrated to Christ, there is always the consolation that death does not end at all. Death is no respecter of persons, but comes to old and young alike. Having given the heart and life to Christ, one can then face the grim monster without a tremor, knowing that the place has already been prepared by the Christ for a joyous reception in that home into which death cannot enter. These thoughts are of especial comfort to the father, sisters, and brothers, as well as the multitude of other dear friends of Luke Morris, who died April the 8th. For at the age of sixteen he had surrendered his life to God, and while living the life of a private citizen in home, or serving his country on the United States Battleship, Colorado, he could realize that "the Lord was with me when I was on the ocean and he is with me now in my illness." This it was that enabled him to sing in a clear voice and with confidence a short while before he died, "Nearer my God to Thee." His twenty-one months of illness was one continual fight to recover his health, but such was not the will of the Lord, so he calmly committed himself to the Father's will. He loved his Saviour and delighted to read His words, finding especial comfort in Romans 10:1-14, and for a favorite verse, John 30:29. While his place is now vacant at the fire side, he rests in the Saviour's bossom with his mother who had preceded him several years. Tenderly we bore him, after the funeral service, conducted at the home by his pastor, to the little cemetery on the hill where his body awaits the resurrection. He is not dead but sleepeth.
