Sutton departed this life on Friday evening, Sept. 29, 1899, at the home of her father, J. M. [sic] Stuart, Leonard, Mo., after a lingering illness of several months. She died of that fatal disease, consumption. she passed away quietly and surrounded by her and family and friends and amid the triumphs of that faith which insures an abundant entrance into the land of peace and rest, whither all who fight the good fight will sooner or later go. Mrs. Sutton was born Feb. 10, 1875. Married to Frank Sutton Jan. 17, 1893. Died Sept. 29, 1899, aged 24 years, 8 months and 19 days. She leaves a husband, three children, father, mother, brothers and sisters and a host of relatives to mourn her death. The writer knew her from infancy and can say we never knew a better child. she was a dutiful and obedient daughter, a loving and tender wife, and a faithful and kind mother. Lula was well loved by all who knew her and a great favorite with all the family and relatives. In her life she was one of the most industrious women ever knew, and as long as she could rock the cradle and help her mother care for her little children she did. She tried in every way to be as little trouble as possible and often done little things for her children when she could hardly sit up. It was so sad to see the bereaved husband and three little children left, but the one who knoweth all things knows best, and the greatest, consolation that can be given them, especially the husband, is to put your whole trust in Jesus and ask Him to watch over and care for those motherless children, and try and live such a life as to meet your loved ones on the other side. We would say to father, mother, sisters and brothers dry your tears and weep no more, as Lula is far better off — where there is no pain, no sickness, and where she can reign with her Saviour forever. It is now over dear Lula and you are now at rest, sweet rest, among the angels, but as long as life shall last we will not forget our last visit to see her before she grew so weak. She seemed to never murmur nor complain, but bore her affliction very patiently, and would say she wished the time would soon come when she would be called home. She called each one to her bed and kissing them goodbye and told them she could not be with them much longer. She was very weak and could not say much but told them she did not fear death and was prepared to meet her Saviour. Oh, what a grand testimony to leave behind. She called her father to her bedside and requested him to stay by her until the last, which he did. she realized what he had done for her and appreciated it as no one but a christian can. Oh, Lula, we do not weep that you are out of pain, for our Father shelters the tender blossoms in his bosom, but we weep for the desolate who will never more know your presence nor hear your sweet voice again. But God knows best, and we must submit to his will. Lula was a member of the M. E. church and had always tried to do her duty in every way. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but what can we say to the bereft husband and family. God knows they have our deepest sympathy, and could we bind up their wounded spirits or say or do something that would alleviate the sorrow which so heavily presses down on their souls, gladly we would do it. We can only point you to the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world. Look to him for consolation, and when the shades of death shall surround you, may each be prepared to meet your loved one. Funeral was preached in the Christian church in Leonard by Rev. Boone of Novelty to a large and attentive audience, having read the entire 11th chapter of St. John and taken for his text the beautiful words found in the 25th verse of the same chapter. He preached a grand and noble discourse, after which the body was laid to rest in the Leonard cemetery. She has finished her work; shall we mourn our beloved one.
