Description	:	Lulu Dorrance Bishop was born at Suspension Bridge, N.Y. on May, 18, 1877 and died at Burgess Memorial Hospital, Onawa, Iowa on April 29, 1972. She was the second daughter of George and Mary Bishop. Her father died when she was five years old and in 1887 her mother married Jud Fuller and they came to Whiting, Iowa where Mr. Fuller was employed as bookkeeper in the E.M. Cassady Store. Read More	Lulu Dorrance Bishop was born at Suspension Bridge, N.Y. on May, 18, 1877 and died at Burgess Memorial Hospital, Onawa, Iowa on April 29, 1972. She was the second daughter of George and Mary Bishop. Her father died when she was five years old and in 1887 her mother married Jud Fuller and they came to Whiting, Iowa where Mr. Fuller was employed as bookkeeper in the E.M. Cassady Store. Lulu and her sister Ada (Gibson) attended school in Whiting and after graduation in 1893. Lulu was sent to Syracuse, N.Y. to live with her aunt, Juliet Packard, where she attended Syacuse Seminary for two more years. On June 30, 1898 she was married to Willard B. Whiting, who was working in the Whiting State Bank and later became its president. Their four children all live in and around Whiting; Mrs. John W. Schwarts (Elizabeth) of Sioux City, Norman R. Whiting and Mrs. John L Gillespie (Louise) of Whiting and Mrs. Sewell E. Allen (Frances) of Onawa. Mr. Whiting died August 9, 1942 at their summer cottage in Spicer, Minn. Mrs. Whiting remained in good health and lived alone in her home at Whiting until she was 90 years old, at which time she fell and broke her leg, which necessitated her having a housekeeper. Mrs. Anna Morales has been taking excellent care of her for the past four years. Both Mr. and Mrs. Whiting were ardent promoters of their community, and of the Congregational Church in Whiting. They were patrons of the arts and took many fine trips to attend plays and opera in Chicago and New York. But always the family was their main interest and children, grandchildren and great grandchildren came from wherever they lived to spend one or more holidays a year with them. For years, Mrs. Whiting has kept a very complete diary of births, education, marriages and special attainments of her descendants. Mrs. Whiting was the oldest member of the United Congregation Church in Whiting and was a past member of Eastern Star, D.A.R., the Whiting Women's Club and all women's church groups. Survivors include her four children, seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 2, 1972 at the United Congregational Church in Whiting with the Rev. Thomas L. Guenther officiating. s. Interment was in the Whiting Cemetery with arrangements by the Wood Funeral Home of Whiting.
