Description	:	Lura Marie Hendricks, oldest daughter of James Perry and Mary Elizabeth Hendricks, was born near Brock, Nebraska, October 7, 1887. She passed away March 16, 1968, after many months of declining health in Oakland, California. Read More	Lura Marie Hendricks, oldest daughter of James Perry and Mary Elizabeth Hendricks, was born near Brock, Nebraska, October 7, 1887. She passed away March 16, 1968, after many months of declining health in Oakland, California. Except for a four year period in her early childhood when her family lived in Jasper, Missouri, she lived and grew to young womanhood in the Brock vicinity. There in early girlhood she was united by baptism with the Christian Church. She graduated from the Brock High School in 1905. After high school graduation she taught for several years in the rural schools in Nemaha, Pawnee and Nuckolls counties. In 1913 she graduated from the Nebraska State Normal at Peru, Nebraska with a major in kindergarten methods. Immediately after graduation she taught for three years in Valentine, Nebraska. Deciding then to go to the west coast, after two years of teaching in Pendleton, Oregon she became a member of the teaching staff of the Oakland, California schools. Her work there covered a span of 30 years including time out for graduate study and a two year leave of absence for teaching in a school for American children in Naking, China. She retired from teaching in 1948 and on March 29 of that year she was married to Frank J. Eichler of Oakland. Two of the great loves of her life were small children and flowers. Having no children of her own, throughout the years she kept contact with and maintained an active interest in the lives of her 15 nieces and nephews. Her love of flowers and growing things led with her husband's help, to the making of their atrractive home, high in the hills overlooking the city of Oakland, a veritable show place. After retirement, she and her husband spent much of their time bringing cheer and when needed, a helping hand to a wide circle of friends and acquaintances, most of them in their declining years. She was preceded in death by her parents and most recently two older brothers, B. Clifford Hendricks of Longview, Washington and Jessie F. Hendricks of Pasadena, California. Besides her husband, she is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Floyd Rouse (Fern), Mrs. Harry Weekly (Jattie) and a brother, Loyd Hendricks, all of Nelson, Nebraska and many other relatives and friends. After cremation, in Oakland, California, committal services were held at 10:00 a.m., April 16, at the Nelson Cemetery, the Reverend Victor Schwarz officiating.
