She was born in St. John's Community in Lake City, SC to her parents, the late Addie Baldwin Thomas and the late Edwin White Thomas Sr. Ms Joyner retired from Hunter's Manufacturer in 1972. She was born in St. John's Community in Lake City, SC to her parents, the late Addie Baldwin Thomas and the late Edwin White Thomas Sr. Ms Joyner retired from Hunter's Manufacturer in 1972. She was a founding member of the First North Charleston Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she was past President of the Ladies Auxiliary, a Sunday school teacher and a member of the church choir also; she was a long standing member of the Portside Baptist Church, North Charleston, until her death. Ms. Joyner is the widow of John Hardy Joyner, Jr., whom she married on March 28, 1941. Their marriage lasted 66 years until his death. She is survived by her nieces and nephews; Sarah Joann Brown (Jay), Jacquelyn (Jackie) Hinson (Cliff), Ann Floyd (Chester), Curtis (Curt) Ward (Sandra), James H. (Jamie) Lee, Terry E. Lee (Gayle), Walter Furman, Angela Simons, and E.W. (Tommy) Thomas III (Vonnie), great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, great-great-great nieces and nephews. Ms. Joyner is preceded in death by her husband, infant daughter Adeline Hope Joyner, her parents, three sisters, Dorothy Ward, Frances Lee, Ethylene Furman and two brothers; James D. Baldwin, and E.W. Thomas, Jr., two nephews; David R. Thomas and Edwin Furman. One great-niece Lori Lee Rodeffer. The family would like to thank Dr. William Cook and his staff for all the support for Lura. To the caring staff of Serenity Palliative & Hospice Care for the special care given to Lura. The family is accepting floral tributes, or in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in the name Lura T. Joyner to Portside Baptist Church, 1179 Remount Road, North Charleston, 29405 or any Hospice Association of your choice. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston SC, 29406. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the hour of service on Wednesday, June 12 2013 at the funeral home.
