Folk, 67, 415 Turner street, a retired machinist, took his life by hanging Wednesday afternoon after leaving a note explaining his action to members of his family, Dr. R. W. Perkins, county coroner, who investigated, said. Dr. Perkins said that the body of Mr. Folk was found in the attic of the home of a daughter, Mrs. Frank A. Nelson, on her return from downtown. A note written by Mr. Folk explained that he had been despondent over an incurable ailment, the coroner said. Mr. Folk was born July 18, 1880, near Reading, Pa. He had resided in Sioux City for the last 30 years. Mrs. Folk died here in October, 1946. Since that time Mr. Folk had lived with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Nelson. He was s member of Maj. W. S. Kirk camp 12, U. S. W. V. Surviving in addition to the daughter are a son, William, of Sioux City; a brother, Harry Folk, Sand Springs, Okla.; seven sisters, Mrs. Ada Henry, Reading; Mrs. Ellen Leiby, Burwich, Pa.; Mrs. Lucy Crosby, Birdsboro, Pa.; Mrs. Margaret Oakerson and Mrs. Marv Garmon, both of Spavinaw, Okla.; Mrs. Anna McGovern and Mrs. Kate Paquet, both of Chicago, and two grandchildren.
