Schnepp, 67, 1007 Lake St., died at 4 a.m. Monday at his home after a long illness. Born July 5, 1902, in Tippecanoe County, he was the son of Joseph and Ellen Michaels Schnepp. He was a retired truck driver and spent most of his life in Monticello. His marriage was May 12, 1926 to the former Grace Bowsher Campbell who survives. Surviving with the widow are two daughters, Mrs. Ethel Hanna, Idaville; and Mrs. Grace Cook, Monticello; three sons, Joseph D., Luther L., and Ralph Campbell, Monticello; one brother, Floyd, Berwyn, Ill.; and one sister, Mrs. Ethel Mae Bowsher, Monticello; one niece, Mrs. Zelda Eaglehoff, Monticello; and 11 grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Miller Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Ross officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. When Andrew died, Jennie was left to raise children under age 13. He died of his wounds from the war. Delilah Leslie was reported to be half Indian. Christopher Emerick was the richest man in Montgomery Co., Ohio. He left with a church group of men from Pine Grove, Pennsylvania to collect their R W land grants. I have not found a military record yet but it sure points in that direction. Leonard Schnepp and his brother Reinhardt joined the Contential Army together but..when the land grants were handed out, because they did not read or write English, someone else put down Leonard Snep and Reinhardt Snypp. Leonard always used Schnepp but Reinhardt kept the Snypp. There are 4 spellings used today--Schnepp-Snepp-Snypp-Snapp. The name Schnepp means a pinch in German. Joseph Schnepp was 16 when he immigrated on 13 October 1747 by himself on the ship "Two Brothers. One of his children was sponcered by a Lorenzo Schnepp, from the same region, Alsace which is now (since WWI) in France. However there has not been any indication however that they were related in any way. I followed his family down a few generations just to make sure and found nothing. A cousin, Kelly Schnepp went to Schnep, France and found nothing. The people in that region speak their own version of German. This line has only 3 REV WAR ancestors Joseph Schnepp Leonard Schnepp Andreas Matteis Straub. researched over 30 years by Linda Doile Morris 5th Great Grandaughter of Joseph Schnepp. Joseph wrote his will before his death and I have a copy.
