Leischer, 53, Found By 2 Little Girls, No Cause Known Believed to have been despondent because of ill health and financial worries, Luther E. Leischer, 53, Colockum batchelor rancher committed suicide by shooting himself with a small rifle at his ranch four miles up the Colockum yesterday. Although he is thought to have died from the self-inflicted gunshot about noon, his body was not found until 4 o'clock when 2 little girls, Melba Pratt and Glenna Letts, came across it. His death was reported to sheriff's officers and Dr. A. C. Young, coroner, and Chief Deputy Sheriff W. H. Humphreys drove to the ranch where they found his body. He had a billfold with $30 in bills and $2.25 in silver and a razor in his pocket. On a kitchen table in his house officers found scribbled on manilla paper a will and two other communications giving a list of his debts. The will was dated July 7 and conveyed all his property to a nephew, William R. Shill and his wife Millie A. Shill. They live in Wenatchee. He was a member of the local Eagles lodge and was said to have lived on his present ranch for the last five or six years. Born in Wisconsin November 4, 1876, Luther E. Leischer is survived by a brother, Willard of De Gray, S.D., and a sister, Mrs. Edith Shill, Fargo, N.D. Leischer came to Wenatchee in 1906 and worked for a number of years for the Eagle Transfer company. Later he worked for the Rex Spray company for five years and had farmed. A note of his accounts was found showing that he owed for some milk, five gallons of oil, gasoline, some hauling and for motor work and engine overhauling. He was due $1.50 for some cherries off the big cherry tree. LEISCHER RITES TUESDAY Funeral services for Luther E. Leischer, age 53, whose death occurred Thursday evening will be held from the Jones and Jones chapel at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, the Rev. Harry L. Bell and F.O.E. No. 201 officiating.
