Luvern Leon Baker, was born at the Eleanor Moore Hospital (Boone County Hospital) in Boone, Iowa on November 29, 1929, the only child of Ralph and Nettie (Nelson) Baker. He graduated from Boone High School in 1948 and continued his education at the American Institute of Business in Des Moines graduating in September of 1950. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country from 1950 to 1954 during the Korean War. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He married Beth Elaine Sawyer in Boone, Iowa on November 23, 1960. He has two sons, Daniel and David. Luvern was a long time employee, in the Boone area, of Iowa Electric Light & Power Company, now Alliant Energy, retiring in 1985 after 31 years of service. He then worked for the Boone Community School District retiring in 1994. Luvern was a member of the Boone American Legion Post #56, AARP, Augustana Lutheran Church and the National Honor Society. He enjoyed traveling, hunting and fishing. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Beth. Luvern is survived by his two sons, Daniel M. Baker and wife, Debra, of Boone and David E. Baker and wife, Linda, of Ocala, Florida; four grandchildren, Melinda Collins and her husband, Alex, of Cedar Rapids, David Baker and his wife, Natalie, of Des Moines, Brandi Johnson and her husband, Tony, of Boone and Bo Baker and his wife, Tina, of Colorado Springs, Colorado and six great-grandchildren, Kolton and Kenley Johnson, Cori Baker, Anthony and Nolan Baker and Colt Marley. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family. Friends may call at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall, on Thursday, March 8, 2018 from 5 until 8 P.M., where the family will be present from 6 until 8 P.M.
