Description	:	Luverne A. Pingel, of Lowden, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 22, 2006, at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City. Visitation will be 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, November 26, at Chapman Funeral Home in Wheatland. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 27, at Zion United Church of Christ, Lowden, with the Rev. Barb Muhs officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Wheatland, Iowa. Luverne Arnold Pingel was born June 25, 1921, in Big Rock, Iowa, the son of Walter and Hulda (Petersen) Pingel. He attended grade school in rural Scott County and then graduated from Wheatland High School in 1939. In August 1944, Luverne was called to serve in the U.S. Army and sent to the European Theater. He served with the 94th Infantry Division in the 3rd Army for 18 months. He married Dorothy Mingst at St. John's Church in Clarence. Together they farmed north of Lowden, until his retirement in 1990 and they moved to Lowden. He served on the Zion church council and served several terms as Massillon Township ASCS Committeeman. He also was Post Commander for the American Legion Post 366, County Commander for Cedar County American Legion, and an active member of the 94th Infantry Association. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; one daughter, Rebecca Sue (William) Race of Clement, CA; two sons, Stephen Ray (Linda) Pingel of Maryville, IL, and Gregory Lee (Denise) Pingel of Ely; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and brother, Merle (Erma) Pingel of New Liberty. He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandchild, one brother, and one sister in infancy. Chapman Funeral Homes
